Bloom Retro Nursery Collection

They call it retro, but it’s really a unique new modern crib with a fresh style for 2014.  These are the kind of curves I like on a crib.  No sleighs, no arches, just a slightly rounded shape that softens the modern style just a smidgen.

From Bloom, the Retro Crib is a solid wood crib “inspired by mid-century design.”  It is available in Coconut White as well as Oak.

The matching Retro Dresser comes with a white frame and your choice of Coconut White, Frost Grey or Oak drawer fronts.  The crib can be converted to a toddler bed with the Retro Bed Rail.

Real Room Tour: Daniel’s Room by SISSY + MARLEY

SISSY + MARLEY‘s nursery designs are usually aspirational, but with a view like that, this one it truly at the top… literally!

While the design of this elegant modern nursery is subtle and sophisticated, the room is actually overrun with a menagerie.  It’s hard to count up just how many animals decorate the space, especially if you include the elephants in the Baby Elephant Walk wallpaper.

Another reason I find this nursery exciting is it’s use of ducduc furnishings.  It’s hard to find photos of these pieces used very often, but this nursery features an Austin Bookshelf

a Campaign Crib

and a Morgan 4 Drawer Dresser.

Of course, no top-of-the-line modern nursery would be complete without seating from Monte Design and they’ve selected a Joya Rocker in white for Daniel.

SISSY + MARLEY really know how to find all the most beautiful and luxurious pieces and bring them all together.  Congratulations on another phenomenal job.  Daniel is a lucky little man who seems to be starting life with the best of everything.

BM Plural & Singular

Usually the ultra modern European kid spaces aren’t anything more than eye candy, but sometimes you can find a retailer out there ready to bring these to those of you who must have something really different.

BM Plural and Singular is a Spanish company that designs and creates practical space-saving collections with that distinctly European modern style.  These collections are all about customizing your color combinations and being really bold with your child’s space.  The collections aren’t for everyone, but I could see these for parents who live in Miami high rises for example.

Composition Baby 01 includes the convertible crib / platform bed, handrail, crib mattress, changer, 2 drawer facebox, toy box, armoire and knobs for $4450.  The main colors you can choose from are artic, coral, aqua and sun and then there are 16 accent color options.  The stool and giraffe decal are available as optional accessories.

Real Room Tour: Elliot’s Eclectic Attic

I’m so excited to share this gorgeous boy’s nursery with you.  It has such a unique eclectic feel where there’s history and personality, yet it’s completely clean and modern at the same time.

Starting with Oeuf’s Sparrow crib in Espresso finish, you can see a modern heirloom in the making.  The rag style rug is country and casual, but in this space it adds warmth and texture.  The felted wool mobile from Sqrl & Bee Studio on etsy is adorable with the little hedgehogs!

I’m loving using antique or traditional storage furniture painted in bright, unexpected colors, and this dresser is topped perfectly with the polka dotted changing cover.  The artwork in the room, the Notre Dame Football posters, and the Chicago poster obviously have a personal connection.

The caned bentwood rocker is a stunning focal point in the room.  It is made totally modern with the red side table and Tord Boontje Garland Pendant (which looks ultra-expensive, but isn’t!).

Thank you Kari for allowing me to share your photos of this space.  You did an absolutely incredible job with the nursery and it’s a room I’m sure that you and your family will enjoy for years to come.

Real Room Tour: Pink and Gray is New Again

When I was in the fourth grade, I got a new 10 speed bicycle for my birthday.  It was pink and gray and it was the coolest bike I had ever seen.  After a couple of years I decided I didn’t like pink and the bike was passed on, but I might be coming full circle.  Pink and gray is new again in this beautiful nursery!

I usually shy away from pink, even in my girls’ nursery designs, but I may be coming around.  The gray makes a clean backdrop and the modern shades of pink in this nursery are used as an accent color without being overused.  Designed by baboo Design, the room features the Classic Oeuf Crib, custom painted walls and a gorgeous flower rug from Zara Home.

The dresser is a Malm from Ikea, the crib bedding is from Jacadi and the lamp was made by the designer’s sister.

The Rocking Elephant and mobile are from Pottery Barn Kids but are no longer available (unfortunately, since they are nicer than anything PBK has right now).

Thanks to baboo Design for sharing these gorgeous photos.  To see more of their work, visit their website.

My Modern Nursery #27: Rich or Reasonable

I’m so excited about Kalon Studios‘ new Caravan Crib that I had to try out a nursery design using the crib with such beautiful, brightly colored rails.  Ikea has some colorful new cribs this year as well, so I made two versions of this room.  One retails for $4744 and the other is only $1557.  Which do you like best?

Real Room: This Baby is Going Places!

I think you’ll agree that one of the best things about the nursery Tracy H. put together for her son Noah, is the subtle way she incorporated a transportation theme.  She explains, “we wanted a theme, but not a room that felt “theme-y”.  As the mother of two boys who are fascinated by all things car, truck, plane, or train, I know that a transportation theme is actually something boys can love from a very early age.  Tracy added transportation accents throughout the room, but in a subtle way that adds interest to a chic and sophisticated color palette.  This room is also cleverly designed to grow with its resident and will easily transition from a nursery to child’s room to teen’s room through the years without much effort!

Tracy purchased the very popular Baby Mod ParkLane Crib from Walmart, which looks great in every nursery I’ve seen it used in.  The rug is a focal point in the room and one of my favorite elements.  Notice that the door has been painted with magnetic and chalkboard paint– how fun is that?!  The black center just looks fabulous on that style door even without the added bonus of being able to write on it.

This Dorel rocker was another Walmart find, but Tracy and her mom customized it with a green cover.  The corner is topped off with the fantastic Traffic Mobile from Djeco.
