Perfect Purim

The Jewish holiday of Purim begins Saturday night.  As an Esther, I’ve always been partial to this celebration of Queen Esther’s heroism in saving the Jews of ancient Persia from destruction.  It’s a fun holiday with food, drinking, storytelling, noise-making and parading in masks and costumes.  The most popular costumes are of the characters in the story– mainly King Ahasuerus, Queen Esther and the villian of the tale, Haman.

I can’t believe I just realized that Oeuf’s collection of dress-up goodies has you covered for all three characters.  There’s a crown for Esther, a beard for the king and a mustache for Haman! ($24-$40)

Hanukkah Shopping Guide

There are less than three weeks until the start of Hanukkah, so now’s the perfect time to prepare. As commercialized as holidays have become, it’s still hard to find good Hanukkah or Jewish themed gift items. I think I’ve rounded up a few good picks. Between previous year’s lists and this year’s list, you should be able to find something special for your child’s Hanukkah celebrations.
