My Modern Nursery #76: Shared Times Three Sponsored by Lullaby Paints

I designed this space for grandma’s house.  She requested taupe, silver and aqua and so that’s where I started.  With five grandchildren in three different families (and I’m sure more eventually), this design maximizes the sleeping combinations for boys and girls of different age ranges in each family and includes a comfy spot for Grandma’s favorite activity– reading bedtime stories.  While that was my aim, this also makes a perfect shared room for three kids.

Oeuf’s Perch Bunk Bed is the most beautiful bunk bed ever, and we already have a Classic Oeuf Crib that they can use.  The paint color is Sheep’s Wool from our sponsor Lullaby Paints.   It’s a warm and cozy neutral that is comfortable for adult guests as well.  The house is in Florida so it needs a ceiling fan, and I added a little sense of place with the Florida map.

My Modern Nursery #75: Sponsored by Lullaby Paints

One thing that is really fun about nursery design is that you can indulge in trends and experiment with fun colors.  By the time you’re done with a blue crib and tired of chartreuse, you’ll be redecorating the room to suit your toddler or preschooler’s tastes.

But just because you’re going to change things in the future, doesn’t mean you can’t invest in quality pieces you love.  This bright fun room is really filled with neutrals that can be re-purposed down the road.  The greenish gray paint (Wake from our sponsor Lullaby Paints) plus the natural wood elements and white rocker can be used in any space once the nursery years are over.  It’s great to plan a nursery with future use in mind and it’s smart to use more of your budget on pieces that can be used in the decades ahead.

My Modern Nursery #73: Naturally Neutral Sponsored by Lullaby Paints

It’s been a long while since I’ve done a really neutral nursery.  This natural color scheme keeps things very simple.  Lullaby Paints has several cozy neutral colors and I chose Straw Sack for this board.  If I was going to do this room live, I’d try a sample of Sabino as well to see which worked better in my space.

The room is filled with furnishings and decor that can be re-purposed down the road in other parts of the house The crib converts to a full-sized bed while the changer can have the top removed to turn it into a dresser.  Even if your child doesn’t use the furniture forever, you could easily transform this into a lovely and comfortable guest room!

Real Room Tour: Finn’s Nursery by Sissy + Marley

The talented ladies at Sissy + Marley have put together another dreamy modern nursery.  Completed in their signature style, baby Finn’s nursery is crisp, clean and full of versatile pieces that will grow with him.

This gender-neutral space is sophisticated enough to blend with the adult areas of the home, but the animals (and giraffes in particular) add enough fun for Finn to enjoy.

The Little Darlings Prints from The Animal Print Shop are as cute as can be.  Every time I visit the site I start looking around the house for empty wall space.  I could look at those sweet animal faces for years and years, I’m sure of it.

Unfortunately, this faux taxidermy elephant head from Anthropologie is no longer available, but this trend is so widespread that if you were looking to achieve a similar look, I’m sure you could come up with an alternative that you love.

I’m a big fan of white on white textures and I think it’s done really beautifully in this space without being monochromatic.  The wood tones (and of course some of the toys) are the pops of color that keep the space from looking cold.

Finally I’m a little envious of anyone with a chalkboard wall.  The possibilities are endless.

Thanks to Sissy + Marley for sharing these incredible photos!  There’s a lot of inspiration here.  Check back tomorrow for more information on how to re-create this look in your own home.
