Tegu Summer Building Contest: The New Explorer and Endeavor Sets

We’ve talked about Tegu plenty of times, but since it’s my job to keep you up to date on the latest and greatest, today we’re talking about the launch of Tegu’s newest Explorer and Endeavor sets!

To celebrate the launch of these new sets, Tegu sent out some samples of the 40 piece Explorer Sets and 22 piece Endeavor Sets and challenged us to a Summer Building Contest.  The winner will be selected at random and will receive a $300+ Tegu bundle to be used as a giveaway prize for their readers (which of course I hope will be you all!).

The Endeavor sets include some longer pieces than were part of the original Tegu sets and the Explorer set also has some of the new angled pieces.  Both sets are available in all of Tegu’s color combinations.  I was thrilled to get my hands on an Explorer Set and I had fun playing around with the new pieces with all of my boys– husband included!  We had a lot of fun seeing how the creative possibilities differ from those of an original set (which we’ve had for a while now).  During our first go, my husband and I morphed an airplane design into this cute little tugboat.

Finally, we put together this awesome doggie that took great advantage of the new extra long pieces and the angled blocks as well!

This is the one that I submitted as my building contest entry!  You can see it and the other entries on Tegu’s blog.  Voting in the Summer Building Contest starts right now and goes until July 3th.  Voting for your favorite will also enter you to win and Explorer or Endeavor Set.  If you want to vote for our doggie, leave a comment with BuyModernBaby on the contest page!

While you’re on the Tegu site, you can purchase any of their sets for 20% off with our special discount code… TEGUMODBABY.  I still don’t have the Magnetic Wooden Wheels, so this would be a great time for me to get some of those as well.

Please excuse the photo quality above.  I had to use my iPhone because our DSLR is in the shop after a calamity during our vacation earlier this month- eep!

Tegu provided the block sets for our participation in this contest.

Tegu Explorer Sets: Featuring Trapezoids!

As someone who got Tegu blocks LAST year, I kinda wish I had waited!  Tegu’s new Explorer Sets feature 4 large and 4 small trapezoidal pieces that from experience playing with Tegu, I know I need!  The set comes in all Tegu colorways and is a great set to start with.

The Explorer sets retail for $110.  Right now, only the tints are listed in the Tegu store but I noticed you can order any of them on lilipicked.com.

Happy Hanukkah!

Tonight marks the first night of Hanukkah so I rounded up a few holiday picks for you.  This Chanukah Set from KidKraft is the most popular (and excellent) Hanukkah toy out there. I highly recommend this for any child who celebrated Hanukkah.  It’s in short supply this time of year, but if you pick it up out of season, you can find a good deal on it.

I liked the Menorah toy they had at Pottery Barn Kids this year also, but it looks like it sold out.

I also found a few more Hanukkah items/gifts:

Sevi Von – A unique DIY Dreidel for Hanukkah– 19.90 from Limor Yaron
Modern Style Hanukkah Menorah in Wood The Family Heirloom by Little Alouette 10 piece set- $65 from Little Alouette
Wooden Puzzle Hanukkah Menorah- $37
Uncle Goose Hebrew ABC Blocks– $33

Chag Hanukkah Sameach!

It’s been fun hearing what DwellStudio goodies are going on your wishlists.  I’m pretty sure that my big gift to myself will be some drapes in DwellStudio Oversize Stripe Charcoal fabric.  Really excited!!

And I’m excited to announce the giveaway winner as well.  The winner of the new Toucan Wooden Puzzle, Woodland Wooden Puzzle and Woodland Memory Game is….. BusyWorkingMama!

Congratulations BusyWorkingMama!  Thanks to all who entered and to DwellStudio for working with me on this great holiday gift giveaway.  All of their toys make incredible gifts.

There are also three cute new push toys, the Dino, Giraffe and Bunny that also make great decor pieces.

More from Brinca Dada

First news I’d like to share is that the Emerson House has been discontinued and is being replaced by the smaller Edward House.

The Edward House is currently available for $279 (limited time), but usually will retail for $349.

Second, the Bennett House is finally available!

The furniture Dylan Furniture collection is now available and the complete Maison Collection is absolutely incredible– as it should be for $349.

Finally, Brinca Dada has a set of teak hardwood blocks that are unlike any others.  Regularly $59, right now you can snag these for $49.

I can’t wait to see what they come up with next!

Tegu Mobility- New Must Have Holiday Gift

Last year I shared Tegu’s Magnetic Wooden Building Blocks with you as a great holiday gift.  If you haven’t gotten a set for your kids yet, it’s still a great idea!  But this year for the holidays, Tegu has released all new magnetic wooden cars sets for your gifting and playing pleasure.

Tegu’s Mobility Collection includes (clockwise from the left) Hatch ($38), Maddy Micro ($22), Riley Roadster ($22), Dart ($38) and a pack of 4 wheels ($15).  Since I already have a set of Tegu, I think a pack of wheels will be an awesome addition to our collection!

I’m happy to have Tegu as an affiliate partner and hope that you love them as much as I do.

New Addition: Organeco Blocks from Hape

After the holidays, I should be all toyed out, but these big bright bamboo blocks from Hape International could be ignored no longer.  They are my newest addition to my guide at buymoderntoys.

This beautiful set of 25 blocks is decorated with bright colors and patterns.  They are rather large and hollow so they’re easy for even small toddlers to hold and stack.

You can purchase Organeco Blocks ($78.95) through my affiliate links or numerous other online retailers.

New Addition: Tegu Blocks Are The Perfect Holiday Gift

I briefly mentioned Tegu blocks in my ABC Kids Expo 2010 Favorite Toys Roundup but I didn’t really convey to you how awesome they are and that every child (and most adults) should have a set of Tegu blocks in their toy collection.  In a nutshell, these are beautiful wooden blocks with magnets inside, and the magic of the magnet is how it expands the building possibilities of the classic wooden block.  Just take a look to get the idea:

Right now the blocks are available in two colors: natural (left) and mahogany (right),  and in two package sizes: original (52 blocks) and the smaller discovery set (26 blocks).

They will soon offer a smaller sample package as well as colored blocks.

I highly recommend starting off with an original set right now.  The natural color is $100 and the mahogany is $125.  The natural discovery set is $55 and the mahogany discovery set is $70.  You can order now with our amazon affiliate link.  This is bound to be a favorite holiday gift as well as a toy that is treasured for a lifetime.  I’ve added Tegu blocks to my list of great blocks sets on buymoderntoys, where you can find my other great toy suggestions.
