New For Fall 2016 From The Land of Nod – Part 1: Furniture

I just went through my catalog to see what’s new for the nursery this fall from The Land of Nod (as I do each season), and there was so much new to share that we’re going to break it down across a few posts. Here are my favorite furniture picks…

First, the new Topside nursery collection features the Topside Crib in either midnight blue or white. There’s also a 3 drawer dresser, a wide dresser, a bookcase, and for future use, a bunkbed. The pieces include lots of storage and the rope pulls make the collection really unique.

Next, the Flex 4-in-1 Sleep Collection is a convertible system that includes pieces for a crib, bassinet, storage cart and toddler bed to grow with your child as needed.

The Larkin Crib is simple but stylish. Gold powdercoat?! Yes! And look at those legs!

If you’ve been waiting for the Jenny Lind Crib in white, the time is now.

A couple new toy boxes are worthy of mention. The Stuart Toy Box was designed by Bill Eastburn and is beautiful with the cutout design on the front panel and angled legs.

The Parkside Toy Box comes in white and blue and was designed by Royce Nelson exclusively for The Land of Nod.

Little Modern Collection from P’kolino

With everything your active toddler needs, in a size that’s designed just for them, P’kolino’s Little Modern Collection has lots of great pieces to consider.  Shipping May 30th, these are currently available for a reduced introductory price.

The Toddler Bed features a safe and stylish design with a hidden storage compartment at the foot of the bed.  It usually retails for $300, but right now you can pre-order it for $250.Pkolino Little Modern Toddler Bed

The Little Modern Toy Chest is 18″ x 15.75″ x 31.3″, so it’s a good deal bigger than previous P’kolino toy boxes have been.  As their size was always my #1 complaint about them, this toy chest should finally do the trick!  It retails for $170, but is available for pre-order now for $150.PKFFMBXWH-img

The Little Modern Table and Chairs are regularly $230, but you can order the set for $200 right now.  We first saw these about a year ago, but I like that it’s now part of this whole collection.  PKFFMTCWH1-img

The Little Modern Activity Table is similar to the table and chair set, but has as hidden play area inside and doesn’t include any chairs.  It’s a great little train or play table for small areas.  This retails for $150 but is available now for the introductory price of $130.  PKFFMATWH1-img

Finish off your toddler’s space with a comfy Little Modern Reader Chair.  I wish we could have a couple of these in each of our preschool’s classrooms!

Congrats to P’kolino on this great new collection.  I got a little nervous about your direction when I saw the Safari Adventure Toddler Bed and Bookshelf for Toys R Us, but you’ve redeemed yourself in my eyes.

Woodland Mod Collection of Toy Boxes from Mod Mom Furniture

Mod Mom Furniture keeps rolling out new items and right now they’ve got three new toy boxes as part of their “Woodland Mod” line.

The Enzo Toy Box is perfect for kids or adult spaces and features a slow-closing lid.  It’s made from solid oak and stained Onyx. $400

The Wes Toy Box is part painted plywood and part Onyx stained maple hardwood.  It features a slow-closing lid as well and locking gray casters.  $525

Last but not least is the Gigi Toy Box made from sycamore quarter-saw hardwood.  The styling on this one is rather traditional but the straight lines are very modern.  $400

These three designs are available now, but keep an eye out because there’s more coming soon!

Top 10 Modern Toy Boxes

It’s been a while since I updated my list of modern toy boxes and there have been a lot of changes to the list.  Here is my current top 10…

1- Toy/Chaise from Iglooplay- $950
2- Owyn Toy Box from Mod Mom Furniture- $425
3- Pkolino Storage Toy Chest with Chalkboard Lid– $90
4- Japchae” Toy Box from Cheme Designs- $175
5- Changing Trunk from Kalon Studios- $520
6- Modern Solid Wood and Metal Toy Box from Fabitecture- $850
7- Argington Fuji Toy Box– $350
8- Gracie Toy Box from Mod Mom Furniture- $475
9- APA Storage Box from Ikea- $15
10- Muir Reclaimed Toy Box from Amenity Home- $577

Before choosing one, make sure you are clear about the dimensions.  You don’t want to order one and have it be much larger or smaller than you expected.  #3 and #9 for example, are really small.

Do you NEED a toy box?  Probably not, as bins, baskets and even closets can do the storage job for you, but there’s something so perfectly old-fashioned about a sturdy wooden chest for storing a child’s playthings.  Imagine if our kids actually only had enough toys to fill it up!

Etsy Find: Snow Mountain Felt Storage

This snow mountain felt toy storage box plays double-duty. Your child can use it to play with cars, dolls or animals and can store everything right inside. My son would send his favorite toy ever, Mr. Cow, a plastic toy cow, down this ski hill.
