My Modern Nursery #115: Fabulous Pink Sponsored by Lullaby Paints

Fantastic Pink is an appropriately named shade of pink for this fantastic nursery. I added a graphic touch to the wall with a corner of chalkboard paint and the bold combination of black, white and pink is softened with a little greenery and some florals.

My Modern Nursery #106: Rose Quartz and Serenity Sponsored by Lullaby Paints

We’ve had a great time this month exploring how to use Pantone’s Color of the Year for 2016 in the modern nursery. Of course, when Pantone selected both a shade of pink and a light shade of blue this year, the obvious first thought was of baby girl and baby boy, but part of the point is to use the two colors together in less gender specific ways.

Rose Quartz and Serenity aren’t the typical shade of pink and blue that you’d see used at a gender reveal parties, baby showers and such, so I hope you followed along on our Pinterest board as I found products that really make the most of these great hues.

For the paint colors, though Lullaby Paints has a huge variety of wonderful colors that we’ve been using over the past few years, we finally were able to take advantage of their custom wall color option that allows you to specify any paint shade while still enjoying non-toxic Lullaby Paints and avoiding dangerous chemicals.

Though we combined Rose Quartz and Serenity in this month’s design, we really couldn’t choose just one for the wall color, so you know we had to do TWO rooms!

Roze Quartz and Serenity: Pantone’s Color(s) of the Year 2016

I always love the day Pantone announces their color of the year. I enjoy the challenge of finding all the best baby gear and nursery accessories in the chosen shade, but I was a little disappointed this year when I discovered what Pantone decided for this year… Roze Quartz and Serenity! First of all, two color picks was a shocker, but then could they get any closer to the cliche baby pink and blue?

But let’s see what the challenge reveals…

Pantone color of the year 2016 rose quartz and serenity

As it turns out, pink lately has been paired with a teal or aqua shade of blue or a dark navy shade. Serenity is more of a cornflower blue or a periwinkle without any purple. Additionally, Rose Quartz is devoid of any yellow that would turn it into a more salmon or coral shade of pink. This made selecting Rose Quartz and Serenity items more of a challenge than I expected.

The pink and blue are meant to blend together this year. It’s a balance between the warm pink and cool blue as it’s explained on Pantone’s website, “In many parts of the world we are experiencing a gender blur as it relates to fashion, which has in turn impacted color trends throughout all other areas of design. This more unilateral approach to color is coinciding with societal movements toward gender equality and fluidity, the consumer’s increased comfort with using color as a form of expression, a generation that has less concern about being typecast or judged and an open exchange of digital information that has opened our eyes to different approaches to color usage.

What do you think of Pantone’s picks for 2016?

1- Ambit Pendant from Muuto
2- Bugaboo Donkey Duo
3- Wooden Doll No. 7 by Alexander Girard
4- Mushroom Lamp from Egmont Toys
5- Stripes and Sunburst from Oz Cushions
6- Blueberry Pie Melamine Plate from Colette Bream
7- Capri Crib bedding from Oilo
8- Softline Pink Quadro Ottoman
9- Plush Goat Pillow from Laura Frisk
10- ITM Tropical Delight Pastel Braided Rug

My Modern Nursery #98: Ballerina Pink Sponsored by Lullaby Paints

This month on Facebook, I took an informal poll asking you which rug to choose to go with our color of the month, Ballerina Pink. I often like to use a rug as the color palette for a space (including in my own home), so rug choice was really going to influence the feel of the space.

Help me decide… which rug would you choose?

Posted by Buy Modern Baby on Tuesday, May 12, 2015

Well, the results were a TIE, with half of you preferring the “Soft and Muted” option, and half preferring “Bold and Bright”. As a result, I took it both ways for you! First, the one I prefer is “Bold and Bright”. I like how the pink walls aren’t what stands out in the space.

MyModernNursery98-BoldAndBright

1- Birds of a Feather 1 by Kristen Smith- 11″x11″ framed- $68
Birds of a Feather 2 by Kristen Smith- 11″x11″ framed- $68

8- Pink Herringbone Woven Hamper– $90
9- Mirabelle Rug, Pink– 8′ x 11′- $2050
10- Flavia Flamingo– $24
Knitted Yellow Pouf– $80

Then so many of you really liked the Shapes Dhurrie Rug, so while I kept all the bones the same, the different colors of the accessories make the design completely different.

I’ve highlighted the items that have changed from the top plan.

My Modern Nursery #84: Gray, Pink and Yellow Sponsored by Lullaby Paints

We’re so happy to continue our nursery board series with Lullaby Paints this year, but we’re doing it a little differently this time!  While we’re still starting with ultra-safe, eco-friendly paint from Lullaby Paints, this time we’ve been using Pinterest boards to collect sources and inspiration as we work to develop the final product below.  I really hope you’ve been following along this month as this Gray, Pink & Yellow Nursery Design came together.

This month we chose a medium shade of gray called Pewter.  It’s part of the color collection created exclusively for Wayfair.com.  Gray is THE hottest color for modern nurseries and Pewter is dark enough to be a bold choice but light enough to not make the room look gloomy.  With bright pink and yellow accents and white furnishings, this room is anything but dark.

MyModernNursery84

1- Alphabet Geometric Art Print from MademoiselleYo- $15
2- Jonathan Chevron Pendant from Stray Dog Designs- $985
3- Pewter by Lullaby Paints- $75 a gallon
Wild One Canvas Banner from Sharp Tooth Studio- $45
4- Birthday Mobile– $71
Oeuf Rhea Crib
– $670
5- Pigeon Lamp– $200
Mandal Dresser from Ikea- $300
6- Ferm Living Half Moon Laundry Basket– $115
7- Mick Yellow Floor Lamp from Crate & Barrel- $150
Cambridge Light Pink / Ivory Rug 8′ x 10′- $290
8- Ferm Living Black Stripe Cushion– $82
Ferm Living Black Mini Triangle Cushion
– $82
9- Rocker Arm Shell in Magenta from Modernica- $435
Knitted Yellow Pouf from CB2- $80
10- Jealous Baby from Lucky Boy Sunday- $122

If you’re feeling this color scheme here but don’t love all the items we’ve chosen, one of the great things about our Pinterest board is that we’ve saved all the other options we considered there for you.  There are alternate furnishings, lights, hampers, rugs, toys, art etc…

Thanks as always to Lullaby Paints for sponsoring our nursery board series.  Safe for baby and the environment, Lullaby Paints are the perfect choice for your modern nursery.  For more nursery color inspiration, follow Lullaby Paints on Pinterest, and keep a lookout for next month’s new board!

My Modern Guest from A Lovely Lark

Lauren, from the truly lovely blog A Lovely Lark, has a delicious summery nursery design for you this July 4th.  I hope your holiday is half as sweet as this gorgeous space.  Thanks Lauren!  And Happy 4th of July!

Yummy Summer Nursery

Hi, Lauren from A Lovely Lark here, pinch hitting for Esther while she and her family are on their summer vacation! Other than, of course, the obvious fireworks and red/white/blue, July makes me think of hot, glorious summer days filled with pools, lemonade, and popsicles. So when I came across this popsicle print on Etsy, I knew it would be the perfect jumping-off point for a summer nursery:

Clockwise from top right: popsicle print, tassel garland, gold heart print, ombre pillow, gold lamp, rug, love love print, gold pouf, crib bedding, rocker, zinc letter, narwal/whale, dresser

I also created a little boy version over on my blog – stop over and take a peek. Thanks for having me Esther! xo, Lauren

Pink Caravan Crib from Kalon Studios

Any takers?

Caravan Dresser $1495 and Divan $795 and Conversion Kit $545

Get the Look FOR LESS: Victoria’s Pink Nursery

Just one additional post about the nursery that Sissy + Marley did for Victoria.  The room of course is spectacular and it happens to come with a spectacular price tag to match.  Adding up just the sources I listed yesterday (not including the rug, books, wallpaper, snail from Australia and the cost of any other customization), the total of the items in the original picture is $9174.  This more economical version is about 70% less than the price of the original at a total of $2631.50!

1- Little Neon Bird Cage– $40
Pom Pom Organic Throw from PB Teen- $80 (same as expensive room)
2- Babyletto Kyoto Glider in Ecru- $700
Moroccan Contemporary Leather Ottoman– $135 (today on overstock.com)
Plush Snail Made to Order (custom color)- $16.50
3- Steiff Schana Swan (large)- $225
4- Thomas Paul Miss Kitty Pillow– $24
Ikea Expedit– $70 (same as expensive room)
Pandan Bins- Metallic– $24 each for 2+ (same as expensive room)
Japanese Wooden Gumball Machine– $52 (same as expensive room)
DwellStudio Bunny Push Toy (almost sold out)- $24 (same as expensive room)
DwellStudio Wooden Car Pink– $29 (same as expensive room)
Snail with Beech Ball (couldn’t find this anyplace else)- AU $22 (same as expensive room)
Zuny Series Elephant (Abby) Pink Animal Bookend– $55 (same as expensive room)
5- Baby S Pink Chair– $78 (I know it’s a knock-off, but we’re going for price here)
Malieg Mini Rabbit– $28 (same as expensive room)
6- Teodora Oval Frameless Mirror– $284 (sale price) it was tough to find a good replacement mirror!
7- Koppang 3 Drawer Chest from Ikea– $100 with a custom paint job.  Sorry for the DIY here!
Rag Dolls from Sandalias de Ana 1, 2, 3– $33.50 each
8- Geometric Landscape– $36
9- Happy Chic Bubble Table Lamps– $100 each (I couldn’t find a good sconce replacement, but these lamps look good)
Reclaimed Birdhouse in Raspberry Pink– $20 (or this is a great DIY opportunity- see inspiration here)
10- Sundvik Crib from Ikea- $120 (you could add some pink paint here too)
Charming Hamper (Dots/Pink)
– $89
Handmade Amish Rag Doll– $28.59

I kept some of the small, less expensive accessories the same, but you can always take some out to save additional $$.  Instead of the fabulous wallpaper, a coat of light pale paint would work beautifully.

The rug is a huge part of the impact of the original room, and while we haven’t calculated it into the design here, you’ve got to consider what you’re putting on the floor.  Here are a couple suggestions I found a Pottery Barn Kids.  Dhurrie Border Rug and Addison Rug

So what do you think?  Go all out in the original version?  Stick with the more reasonable options or would you mix and match?
