Unique Felted Mobiles

There are theme mobiles and felt mobiles but Gulnara Kydyrmyshova does themed felt mobiles really well.

I love how the pieces hang off the large palm in the Pink Flamingo Mobile.

Owls and stars are common mobile motifs, but Gulnara’s Owls and Stars Mobile has a fresh and original look.

This one in navy, white and gold first caught my eye with its inspiring color combination.

We’ve featured their paper mobiles before, but Frazier + Wing is branching out with new materials and shapes in 2014.

I’m most excited about the gorgeous wooden mobiles like Sandro Mobile Walnut and Maple. Frazier + Wing Sandro wood modern mobiles

Felt is another new material for Frazier + Wing and there’s the round Auden Mobile and the octagonal Truman Mobile.

I am a little sad that the older styles are gone from the website, but if they didn’t have anything new, I wouldn’t have had a reason to post about them again.  Shop all the styles and colors on the Frazier + Wing website.

Etsy Find: Mobiles from Flying Tree Studios

I found these sweet mobiles from Flying Tree Studio while populating my new etsy page.  I also realized it’s been a while since I’ve done some proper etsy find posts but I’ve got a bunch a great new finds queued up now!

These made-to-order wooden mobiles are constructed in Southern California from pieces of solid wood.  The designs are added with original drawings on paper or fabric and then sealed with a high glass varnish.  This is really different from anything we’ve featured before!

First I like the Hot Air Balloons and Clouds – Wood and Felt Mobile.  It’s available in three color combinations for $75.

The Wooden Vintage Airplanes Mobile is another good one, and in this design, even the cloud is wooden.  $90

The Under the Sea Mobile features a seahorse (my favorite!), dolphins, octopus and a sea turtle.  $80

Finally, the Camping Woodland Forest Mobile is going into my Camping Cuteness collection! $80

There are also surfboard mobiles, elephant mobiles and more, so visit the shop and browse for your favorite!

Best Modern Mobiles 2013: Sponsored by Babyli.st

There is no one right answer to the best mobile question.   Though there are options that are supposed to be good for capturing baby’s attention and promoting brain development, mobiles are more decorative than functional.  Some are battery operated and play music, spin or light up.  I have nothing against those and reluctantly admit that we had one of those gadgety gizmos, but currently, there aren’t any on the market that I’d feel good about recommending.  If that changes, I’ll let you know!

For now, think of your nursery mobile as a floating piece of artwork for your modern nursery.  You can hang one in a corner, over the changing table, or over the crib, but wherever you put it, make sure you hang it out of baby’s reach.

As part of our baby registry series sponsored by Babylist, I’m sharing my top 10 favorite sources (in no particular order) for modern mobiles.  With just these 10 brands, you’ll have an incredible selection of gorgeous modern mobiles.  Pick your favorite and add it to your baby registry!
