My Modern Nursery #65: Soft Pink and Gray Harlequin
If 2012 was the year for chevron and zig zag patterns in modern design, then in 2013 we’re moving into harlequin patterns with triangles and diamonds. I’m partial to triangles anyway, so this is a direction I can really get behind. This nursery board was inspired by the amazing Walt Disney Signature It’s A Small World rug. It’s the most expensive thing I’ve selected in a while, but you’ve gotta start with something you really love. If your inspiration is spectacular, the room can’t turn out badly.

My Modern Nursery #56 (Part 2): Embrace the Neutrals
So I said I’d redo the bright version of My Modern Nursery #56 and just do a completely neutral version and here it is. Before you complain that it’s TOO neutral, don’t forget that kids books and toys are sure to fill the space before long, so there’s nothing wrong with a simple backdrop.
For the most part, this is a is demo of how, by picking the right neutral furnishings, you can then go in any direction just by using different accessories. Reuse the furniture for multiple children and get a completely different look. If you really like changing things up, you can even decorate seasonally– pastels in spring, warm colors in the winter etc…
Here we kept the wallpaper, crib, dresser and rocker, but changed everything else.

My Modern Nursery #55: Bright Green and Yellow

They Posted These So I Don’t Have To
These are some of my favorite posts from around the web over the past week.
First you’ve got to take a look at this Cozy Grey nursery on chalk + dot. So many things that I love about it! The only thing I’d have to change is the fan.

So we already love her Alphabet Print, but Pilgrim (on Draw! Pilgrim) has done an amazing post showing the alphabet print with an all new “gum ball” colorway in three different inspirational settings. I especially (of course) LOVE the colorful nursery setup.

Small for Big is already looking ahead to February and has found some ADORABLE soft valentine’s toys that are easy to lurve! Super cute picks and with plenty of time to place your orders.

I loved Maddie’s etsy roundup of star-themed items for kids’ rooms, “Sleep Under the Stars,” on Li’l Magoolie. Click through to see all 10 of her picks!

Finally, since we love ABC posters around here, I have to direct you to the ABC posters by Yoni Alter that I discovered on Design Mom.

Have a fantastic weekend. My parents might come for a quick visit and we’ll probably take the kids to cool off at the skating rink.

Real Room Tour: The Suburban Urbanist Strikes Again
Inspired in part by the nursery that Lindsay Brier, designer and owner of Anyon Interior Design, designed for her son…

…Jenna Halverson, of The Suburban Urbanist, put together this inspiration board for a nursery for her dear friends.

We’ve previously shown you Jenna’s Gender Neutral Lion’s Den and I’m so happy that she was able to put her skills to good use yet again. With some input from the parents-to-be, Jenna helped put this amazing nursery together for them. Take a look at the final results….

You can see the gray and white stripes used here to great effect and a little color added with the turquoise rug, painted furnishings and accessories.

I also like the little pops of red that show up here and there.

For more information about this space and product sources, visit the nursery reveal post on The Suburban Urbanist. The room looks so chic and expensive, but you’ll be surprised at how reasonably they were able to achieve this look. Thanks Jenna for allowing me to share your photos and congratulations to the Whetstine’s!

Zig Zag Gray Baby Bedding from New Arrivals, Inc.
I have to share a new arrival from New Arrivals, Inc. (heh heh) because I know that so many of you are looking for gray bedding. Add the zig zag to the mix and this is a hot item.

Zig Zag Baby Bedding is $428 for a 3 piece set. You can also purchase the items a-la-carte, so the sheet ($68) and skirt ($100) together are $168– which isn’t too bad.
update 12/16: Nursery Notations is hosting a New Arrivals Inc. giveaway this week! Win a $100 gift certificate. The winner will be chosen this Sunday so go now!
Logan: New Bedding Collection from Olli & Lime
Famous for their modern, gender neutral bedding designs, Olli & Lime has departed from their comfort zone (just a little) to bring you their modern interpretation of pink. Despite being the mom of two boys, I think Logan‘s pink + gray + pinwheels = a hit.
And I love the name! Olli & Lime have recently relocated to the US, settling in Boston, so “Logan” is the lovely airport they’ll be traveling in a out of for the time being! I have my own fond memories of Logan airport from back in my graduate school days… but I digress.
Here she is….

As you can see, the collection is complete with bedding sets, changing pad cover, decorative pillow and wall art (abc and 123). There are also bibs, burp cloths, hooded blankets and coordinating Jellycat plush animals (so cute!).

I also want to let you know that Olli & Lime have partnered with Frazier + Wing to create mobiles to go with each of their bedding sets! They are available exclusively on olliandlime.com.
Keep track of all that’s new with olli & lime by following their really nice blog.

Real Room Tour: Modern Bird Inspired Nursery
Taryn, of the blog Design, Dining + Diapers, designed this gender neutral nursery around birds and trees to create a peaceful space for her little one.

The birds and trees decal combination is a very popular, and wonderfully impactful, focal point. Taryn fell in love with the Madison Crib from Eden Baby, and I’m surprised that this is the first time I’ve seen this crib in a nursery. I actually photographed it last year at ABC Kids Expo and think Eden Baby designs are an interesting option at a reasonable price point.

The birdhouse in the corner is an adorable detail in the room. It was a craft store purchase that was spray painted white. Who knew those craft supplies could look so chic?
Now, I haven’t been to Pier 1 for a long time, so I had no idea that they sold cute plush toys like the gray owl! He’s totally awesome, and the bird is perfect in this room as well. You can get one of the bird pillows from The Land of Nod.

The most wonderfully original idea in this room is the birch branches that Taryn picked up at a craft store and uses as a nightlight. Functional and beautiful! And the frames are custom made fabric art.

The biggest splurge in the nursery was the Charleston Upholstered Convertible Rocker from Pottery Barn Kids. It looks perfect in this comfy reading nook.

Notice the little extra branch detail by the window… so cute!

Finally, the mobile was a DIY project and ties the entire space together.

Thank you so much Taryn for sharing the photos of this sweet room!
If you want to see more about this nursery, visit Taryn’s nursery reveal post. There are so many creative and inspirational ideas in this room, you’ll want to know more of the details. Also, check out the blog Design, Dining + Diapers for more of Taryn’s home decorating projects.

Real Room Tour: I’ll Take Gray Any Day
There are so many things that I love about the nursery Suzz put together for her first 2-legged baby (you’ll see the 4 legged one in the photos). The first wonderful element is the subtle “oh boy” lettering on the wall. I think this kind of look can be used anywhere in the home! So cool.

I also have to direct your attention to the ceiling fan blades which were color coordinated using matte vinyl adhesive sheets instead of paint. Such a great idea!
A Giant Lemonade blabla doll rests on the table, and the Hannspree Giraffe TV adorns the dresser across the room.
I adore the way the Ikea Hemnes dresser was modified to look like CB2′s archive credenza! Genius. And of course it goes perfectly with CB2′s letterpress rug.

The sleek pair of terriers on the ledge are by Yvonne Collection and are available in Taiwan. I did manage to find one on their website though!
Suzz was inspired by “we were small” and created the pillows and onesies (you see them hanging around the room) as an homage to the Belgian children’s clothing company.

The wall cubes currently display a Vulli Chan Pie Gnon Chew Toy and a collection of DingaRings. And another one of my favorite things in this room is the series of fish prints that Susan made herself. They were inspired by Fish by Izzy Matthews and I think they work incredibly well as a grouping of prints.

The crib is of course Oeuf’s Sparrow in grey, which always looks amazing in any nursery. You can’t go wrong with this beauty.
I love the way Liun the lion from Aminals looks in the crib and am now a fan of the entire Aminals collection. You’ve gotta check these out.

I imagine the new baby is going to be a huge adjustment for Preston the puggle, who is used to being the center of attention. Such a great photo of him in the Stokke Xplory

Thank you so much Suzz for sharing the photos of your fabulous nursery! I feel honored to have had any small part in inspiring the space that you put together.
