My Modern Nursery #67: Eco Friendly for Earth Day Sponsored by Lullaby Paints
Inspired by Earth Day, I’ve put together this relaxing, gender-neutral and eco-friendly modern nursery inspiration board. We want our children to be able to live in a healthy environment both on a global scale and in their homes and the spaces they will occupy as they develop and grow.
For so many of us, while we’re expecting our first child might be the first time we start to think about the materials, toxins and chemicals that we use in our homes. When we moved into our new home while I was expecting baby #2, this meant I was also looking for safe and healthy paint, not just for the nursery walls, but throughout the house. We found the best options we could by looking for low-VOC paints, but I wish I had found Lullaby Paints at the time. With eco-friendly packaging, a non-toxic formula and the ability to order reasonably priced sample paint pouches (4 for $10) before you commit to a color, this was JUST what I was looking for.
For this Earth Day nursery I selected Celadon, a fresh, easy-to-use pale green that says spring, and all my other eco-friendly finds fit in perfectly with it.

2- Bug Print (Caterpillar) 10″ x 8″- $24

Get the Look FOR LESS: Victoria’s Pink Nursery
Just one additional post about the nursery that Sissy + Marley did for Victoria. The room of course is spectacular and it happens to come with a spectacular price tag to match. Adding up just the sources I listed yesterday (not including the rug, books, wallpaper, snail from Australia and the cost of any other customization), the total of the items in the original picture is $9174. This more economical version is about 70% less than the price of the original at a total of $2631.50!

1- Little Neon Bird Cage- $40
Pom Pom Organic Throw from PB Teen- $80 (same as expensive room)
2- Babyletto Kyoto Glider in Ecru- $700
Moroccan Contemporary Leather Ottoman- $135 (today on overstock.com)
Plush Snail Made to Order (custom color)- $16.50
3- Steiff Schana Swan (large)- $225
4- Thomas Paul Miss Kitty Pillow- $24
Ikea Expedit- $70 (same as expensive room)
Pandan Bins- Metallic- $24 each for 2+ (same as expensive room)
Japanese Wooden Gumball Machine- $52 (same as expensive room)
DwellStudio Bunny Push Toy (almost sold out)- $24 (same as expensive room)
DwellStudio Wooden Car Pink- $29 (same as expensive room)
Snail with Beech Ball (couldn’t find this anyplace else)- AU $22 (same as expensive room)
Zuny Series Elephant (Abby) Pink Animal Bookend- $55 (same as expensive room)
5- Baby S Pink Chair- $78 (I know it’s a knock-off, but we’re going for price here)
Malieg Mini Rabbit- $28 (same as expensive room)
6- Teodora Oval Frameless Mirror- $284 (sale price) it was tough to find a good replacement mirror!
7- Koppang 3 Drawer Chest from Ikea- $100 with a custom paint job. Sorry for the DIY here!
Rag Dolls from Sandalias de Ana 1, 2, 3- $33.50 each
8- Geometric Landscape- $36
9- Happy Chic Bubble Table Lamps- $100 each (I couldn’t find a good sconce replacement, but these lamps look good)
Reclaimed Birdhouse in Raspberry Pink- $20 (or this is a great DIY opportunity- see inspiration here)
10- Sundvik Crib from Ikea- $120 (you could add some pink paint here too)
Charming Hamper (Dots/Pink)- $89
Handmade Amish Rag Doll- $28.59
I kept some of the small, less expensive accessories the same, but you can always take some out to save additional $$. Instead of the fabulous wallpaper, a coat of light pale paint would work beautifully.
The rug is a huge part of the impact of the original room, and while we haven’t calculated it into the design here, you’ve got to consider what you’re putting on the floor. Here are a couple suggestions I found a Pottery Barn Kids. Dhurrie Border Rug and Addison Rug–

So what do you think? Go all out in the original version? Stick with the more reasonable options or would you mix and match?

My Modern Nursery #65: Soft Pink and Gray Harlequin
If 2012 was the year for chevron and zig zag patterns in modern design, then in 2013 we’re moving into harlequin patterns with triangles and diamonds. I’m partial to triangles anyway, so this is a direction I can really get behind. This nursery board was inspired by the amazing Walt Disney Signature It’s A Small World rug. It’s the most expensive thing I’ve selected in a while, but you’ve gotta start with something you really love. If your inspiration is spectacular, the room can’t turn out badly.

My Modern Nursery #64: Train Nursery Inspired By Ferm Living
Over a year ago I received a request for assistance with a train themed nursery. I tinkered around with the idea a bit, but I couldn’t find anything to really get me excited about the idea and inspire me. Lately I’ve been spending a lot of time on the Ferm Living site studying all their new items and thinking about what I could add in my own home. Then the Tiny Train Wallpaper really jumped out at me and I finally put two and two together. Ferm Living + Tiny Trains = the perfect inspiration!

After finishing this design this weekend, what did I spot in my Google+ feed (yes, I still use Google+ a bit!)? It was a nursery designed by My Tiny Nest on Project Nursery that used the same inspiration! If you want to see how fantastic the wallpaper looks in photos, you have to head over there. Great minds think alike!
