We were running around all day today so we could go meet my newest nephew (less than a week old!), so this post is a little later than usual, but I hope all you modern moms, moms-to-be, mothering types and motherhood supporters had a wonderful day.
This is our first Mother’s Day photo outside the house and I feel like there are a couple lessons there. One, as a mother, you have to learn to be flexible. Nothing is guaranteed to match your expectations, so you have to roll with it and be happy with the joy there is, not what you think ought to be. Second, as your kids get older (as you can see mine keep doing!), the world expands. From the nursery to the rest of the home, to the neighborhood, then school and beyond… their world keeps growing and expanding and yours moves along with it. We may feel cooped up in the early days and years by nap times and mealtimes and then the school calendar, but life opens up and it gets both easier to manage and harder to keep them as close as you’d like.
I thank these two brown haired, brown eyed, growing too fast smiling faces for loving me as their mom, for trusting that I know what I’m doing and teaching me so many lessons about myself. If you’re just starting on the journey of motherhood, just wait. It’s so much more than you can imagine.
