Stroller Review: Quinny Zapp Xtra with Folding Seat

Buy Modern Baby is excited to announce that not only do we cover the best designed gear and nursery furniture for your mini-modernist, but in addition to our stroller guide, we are now also reviewing and highlighting the sleekest, most stylish, and sophisticated stroller options to complete your modern lifestyle.

We are pleased to introduce our first stroller review: The Quinny Zapp Xtra with Folding Seat.

Quinny was kind enough to send us a Zapp Xtra with folding seat to review in person. The stroller has been tested over a period of two months, over which my son has grown from a content 11-month-old to a now walking, curious, adventurous 13-month-old. We have put this stroller to the test! It has been used during a week-long vacation in Florida, over cobblestone pathways, wooden boardwalks, neighborhood walks, zoo outings, mall shopping, road tripping, and pushing around the house to encourage napping. I feel that we have given it a true, comprehensive review.

The Quinny Zapp Xtra with Folding Seat is a full size stroller with an incredibly compact fold. When used with the included infant car seat adapters, the stroller transforms into a complete travel system for use from birth to 50 pounds. Without an infant car seat, the stroller is useable from six months to 50 pounds.

The Quinny Zapp looks really smart. Strangers often made comments about the beautiful color (Natural Mavis) and the Quinny logo in bright pops of neon yellow. People commented about the clean design and its upscale appearance. I kind of felt like a celebrity, which, I admit, is pretty nice when you are just running errands with your child in tow. It is a very attractive stroller – Quinny has an amazing sense of design and it certainly shows.

The shoulder straps are padded, comfortable, and ridiculously easy to adjust (just push and pull through the back of the seat). The seat bed is definitely roomy enough for my son to move around, squirm, kick, stretch, and recline using the footrest.

There are two recline options, and they certainly have come in handy allowing my son to nap, and even to carry shopping items while I wore my son in his baby carrier.

The sunshade is large and is very sturdy, with a small window strip to peek in on your child. The wheels handle well on many different terrain types, as said above, over brick driveways, a trip to the zoo, on a boardwalk by the river, and on city sidewalks. It is easy to turn with one hand when the wheels are unlocked and also a smooth ride when wheels are locked straight. The handlebars easily hold my small, lightweight, travel diaper bag. The handlebar height is a little shorter than my husband and I are used to, since we are both tall, 6’4” and 5’10” respectively. The brake is simple to use—just step on one footpad to lock and step on the other to unlock. This brake is PERFECT for wearing sandals and flip flops. The lack of brake bar or brake lever also ensures that you will never kick it while walking or engage the brake when pulling the stroller backward up stairs. The storage basket is a bit smaller than other full size strollers, but that is to be expected with the stroller’s small size, light weight and compact fold. Easy tradeoff.

The option to have your child face forward or face you is wonderful for bonding and reducing stimulation. The process to change the seat from forward facing to parent facing was a little cumbersome for me as the frame seemed to expand slightly when the seat was removed, just enough to have to press it together with both hands to lock in place.

This is a ONE-HANDED, four-step fold which is super easy. Make sure the parking brake is applied and the seat is in forward facing position. Push the release button labeled 1, then push the release button labeled 2 and fold the handlebars forward. Fold the seat forward by squeezing the seat recline button and collapsing it on top of itself. Press down on the gray pedal with your foot and push towards the front of the stroller. Wrap the transport straps around the frame to fasten. Voila!

The fold is extremely compact and the stroller barely took up any space in a Subaru during a 12-hour road trip in our fully loaded trunk, which included a travel crib and a 70 pound dog. Folded, the stroller is very small, light, and the carrying strap makes it simple to hold with one hand.

Additional stroller accessories include a travel tote, parasol, footmuff, WeatherShield, and cup holder. Seat adapters for the Maxi-Cosi Mico or Prezi infant car seats are included.

The Quinny Zapp Xtra Stroller with Folding Seat is available in three color choices, Natural Mavis, Rebel Red, and Rocking Black and retails for $349. Find your favorite color available here.
