Preponderance of Penguins: A Mega-Roundup
My 5 year old is rather sensitive about movies. I haven’t been able to pin down exactly the range of issues that frighten him in films, but the list of “safe” movies is quite short. This has meant that until this weekend, we’ve never taken him to see a movie in the theater. I let him (push him, actually) see previews for any kids movies that come out to see if he’s willing to give them a shot, and the first one he was willing to try was Mr. Popper’s Penguins.
We watched all the commercials and trailers for Mr. Popper’s Penguins and talked about the experience of going to the movie theater. He was really excited and I’m happy to report that the trip was a great success and he LOVED the movie.
In honor of the penguins who inspired my little guy to experience a trip to the theater, I’m rounding up all things penguin for the nursery and your little ones.

New Fawn Clock from Decoylab
I’m happy to report that Decoylab has released a new clock. This sweet little fawn is made with eco-friendly 3ply bamboo and measures 7.5″ x 10″. The design isn’t new but this is the first time it has been made into a clock. $68

It’s a lovely addition to the “Modern Animal Clocks” collection. You can also try to find it in Decoylab’s etsy shop.
Soon I’ll have to show you a photo of my own new Decoylab clock in my son’s room. It fits in there perfectly!

Nurseryworks Vetro Collection
Yes, you heard me right. Vetro Collection. The famous (or infamous) acrylic crib from Nurseryworks, formerly known as the Hollis crib, is now the Vetro Crib. Vetro means “glass” in Italian.

The collection includes the crib ($3500) and the changer ($1500). The changer is pretty much Nurseryworks’ 2-wide changer with handles, a clear changing top and acrylic cutouts.

I am glad they decided against the fully acrylic changer though (so far). I was worried about that one. Nobody wants the contents of their drawers on full display.

The mattress pictured in the crib is from Nook and is a brilliant pick for this crib.
I can’t wait to see what else Nurseryworks has up its sleeve! I’m also looking forward to seeing photos of the Vetro crib is used in actual nurseries. That should be interesting.
Signature Collection Tripp Trapp High Chairs from Stokke
If the Tripp Trapp high chair isn’t high end enough for you, maybe these two new special edition Tripp Trapps will work.
The American Walnut and European Oak chairs are now available for $450. In comparison, the regular Tripp Trapps are about $250 to $265.

Thanks to Baby Chic 101 for the news about these lovely chairs.
They Posted These So I Don’t Have To
These are some of my favorite posts from around the web over the past week.
First of all, I have to show you this incredible (Not So) Mellow Yellow Mood Board from chalk + dot. Just paint the walls your favorite shade of gray and you’ve good to go! Visit the post for all the sources and the inspiration.

I seriously had no idea you could do this, but Honey & Fitz shared their secret of Converting an upholstered chair into a swivel glider. There is no longer any acceptable reason to have an ugly rocker or glider in you home.

Being a Floridian, I had to take note of babyology’s A Flock of Flamingos. Such a fun roundup (even though I’ve never actually seen a Flamingo in Florida!).

Coos & Ahhs rocked another “Word of the Week” post (they’re all incredible) with this super-fun elephant roundup. Twenty-two wonderful elephants

Remember Chic & Cheap Nursery’s guest post from last week? Well, (of course) she’s come up with a few more affordable options to get the look for the Pink & Navy Preppy Nursery. See Save vs. Splurge: Affordable Copy Cats for all her finds.

Real Room Tour: I’ll Take Gray Any Day
There are so many things that I love about the nursery Suzz put together for her first 2-legged baby (you’ll see the 4 legged one in the photos). The first wonderful element is the subtle “oh boy” lettering on the wall. I think this kind of look can be used anywhere in the home! So cool.

I also have to direct your attention to the ceiling fan blades which were color coordinated using matte vinyl adhesive sheets instead of paint. Such a great idea!
A Giant Lemonade blabla doll rests on the table, and the Hannspree Giraffe TV adorns the dresser across the room.
I adore the way the Ikea Hemnes dresser was modified to look like CB2′s archive credenza! Genius. And of course it goes perfectly with CB2′s letterpress rug.

The sleek pair of terriers on the ledge are by Yvonne Collection and are available in Taiwan. I did manage to find one on their website though!
Suzz was inspired by “we were small” and created the pillows and onesies (you see them hanging around the room) as an homage to the Belgian children’s clothing company.

The wall cubes currently display a Vulli Chan Pie Gnon Chew Toy and a collection of DingaRings. And another one of my favorite things in this room is the series of fish prints that Susan made herself. They were inspired by Fish by Izzy Matthews and I think they work incredibly well as a grouping of prints.

The crib is of course Oeuf’s Sparrow in grey, which always looks amazing in any nursery. You can’t go wrong with this beauty.
I love the way Liun the lion from Aminals looks in the crib and am now a fan of the entire Aminals collection. You’ve gotta check these out.

I imagine the new baby is going to be a huge adjustment for Preston the puggle, who is used to being the center of attention. Such a great photo of him in the Stokke Xplory

Thank you so much Suzz for sharing the photos of your fabulous nursery! I feel honored to have had any small part in inspiring the space that you put together.
(If you would like me to feature your nursery here as well, please drop a line to esther@buymodernbaby.com)
Etsy Find: Bee Things
I came across these colorful prints while searching for art for the Southwestern nursery. While they didn’t quite fit that space, they’d be perfect in many others!

The prints are handmade, limited edition screen prints on paper and my favorites include these bird prints.

Whooping Crane limited edition print 10″ x 14″- $25

Barn Owl limited edition print 10″ x 14″- $25

Pelican limited edition print 10″ x 14″- $25

Zebra Finch limited edition print 10″ x 14″- $25
To see more from bee things you’ll just have to check out their etsy shop and website.
My Modern Nursery #43: The American Southwest
As you may have noticed, I was gone last week. We headed to Arizona for a family vacation and an extreme change of scenery. This area around Sedona, know as “Red Rock Country” is one of my favorite destinations in the world for the climate and the sights.
Here’s just a little sampling of the flavor of the area…

As we drove around admiring the homes and thinking about the magnificent views they must have, I dreamt of staying in Sedona permanently. Of course, I imagined the type of modern nursery that would suit the local architecture. This is what I came up with.
2- Sand Painted Disc and Turquoise Floating Disc from Red Dove Art- $185 each
3- Stuffed Obax Roadrunner 12″- $18
Spot on Square Roh Dresser- $1290
4- P’Kolino Clothes Tree, White- $90
5- White Monte Joya Rocker with Walnut Base and Paul Smith Brown Lumbar Pillow- $1030
6- Heather Levine Wall Hanging
7- Spot on Square Roh Crib White Side- $1590
9- Svan Bouncer Fully-Adjustable Activity Seat – Chocolate/Orange- $120
10- Natural Tree-Stump Side Table from West Elm- $200
No, it’s not cheap, but neither is Sedona real estate.
New Addition: Feeding Products from Hoppop
Last year I introduced you to Hoppop‘s potties, bathtub and bath toys. This year, they’ve moved from the bathroom to the kitchen with their collection of baby feeding products.

All the pieces are available in lime (shown), fuchsia and aqua and can be ordered through my amazon.com affiliate:
Hoppop Diabolo Child’s Plastic Plate- $13
Hoppop Coppa Child’s Plastic Drinking Cup- $8
Hoppop Dobblo Child’s Plastic Plate- $15
Hoppop Atablo Tray/Bowl/Cup Child’s Feeding Set- $25
Hoppop Manu Child’s Plastic Cutlery- $10
(sorry for the highchair tease in the video- that’s not currently available in the US)

Thanks to Paul & Paula for the heads up on these!
