New Addition: Chic Diaper Bags From Momma Couture
Momma Couture is a newer brand of diaper bags for fashion-forward moms. I don’t particularly consider myself a fashionista, but I appreciate a diaper bag that is practical for toting your kids’ stuff while not being obvious about it. If you’d carry the bag when you’re out without the kids, it’s a winner to me.

I’m sure you’ll agree that these styles from Momma Couture fit the bill.
I particularly like the City Bag (left), a fully insulated messenger, which starts at $75, and the Playdate (right), which starts at $120 ($245 as shown).

I’ve added Momma Couture to my list of diaper bags at buymoderndiaperbags and you can see my other diaper bag picks there as well.
Etsy Find: Awesome Illustrated ABCs
Here’s yet another batch of beautiful alphabet posters that you can find on etsy.com. You can never go wrong with an ABC poster on the wall in the nursery and there’s a poster to fit any style. If none of these fit your decor, I’ve rounded up a bunch over the past year in previous alphabet poster posts.

ABC… limited edition giclee print of an original illustration 8.5″x11″ $25 from helendardik

Alphabet Art 13″x19″ $30 from HoneyBunnyStudio

Alphabet Poster Print in ‘Sundae’ Colorway 16.5″x11.7″ $30 from drawpilgrim
Holiday Shopping: Great Finds at Ikea
If you are fortunate enough to have an Ikea within driving distance, you can really stretch your holiday shopping budget and find some lovely items for the kids on your shopping list.
These baby classics in their Mula collection are $5 to $15.
The Duktig felt food collections will be treasured for $5-$8.
And the Duktig kitchen, dishes and utensils are really fantastic and long-lasting toys as well.
The new Lillabo pack of cars is only $10 and the soft Landet set is $8.
The ultimate Ikea gift (as long as you have the space for it) is the Virre slide. We spend at least 10 minutes of every Ikea trip “testing” this one out. This is the most expensive Ikea toy ($150) but it’s a beautiful piece of indoor play equipment.
As always at Ikea, there is more in store (including wrapping paper and holiday decorations at great prices) so you have to take a trip this holiday shopping season.
New Addition: Tegu Blocks Are The Perfect Holiday Gift
I briefly mentioned Tegu blocks in my ABC Kids Expo 2010 Favorite Toys Roundup but I didn’t really convey to you how awesome they are and that every child (and most adults) should have a set of Tegu blocks in their toy collection. In a nutshell, these are beautiful wooden blocks with magnets inside, and the magic of the magnet is how it expands the building possibilities of the classic wooden block. Just take a look to get the idea:

Right now the blocks are available in two colors: natural (left) and mahogany (right), and in two package sizes: original (52 blocks) and the smaller discovery set (26 blocks).
They will soon offer a smaller sample package as well as colored blocks.

I highly recommend starting off with an original set right now. The natural color is $100 and the mahogany is $125. The natural discovery set is $55 and the mahogany discovery set is $70. You can order now with our amazon affiliate link. This is bound to be a favorite holiday gift as well as a toy that is treasured for a lifetime. I’ve added Tegu blocks to my list of great blocks sets on buymoderntoys, where you can find my other great toy suggestions.

My Modern Nursery #29: Reader Request
A reader requested some assistance with the decor for her nursery. She has already picked out Dot Fun crib bedding from DwellStudio for Target and has some dark furniture for the room, so that’s where I started. First I looked for mobiles, and when I saw the Cyclephants mobile from Flensted (#6), I used it to inspire the rest of the decor choices. The room uses a lot of primary colors but the green rug tones it down a bit. There is also a slight circus theme but it is used sparingly just to add a little color and fun.
1- DwellStudio® for Target® Dot Fun Crib Set- $80
2- babyletto Mercer 3 in 1 Crib with Toddler Rail, Espresso- $400
3- FY Bentwood Rocking Chair – Red- $130
4- Surya Mystique Lime Green Contemporary Rug 8′x11′- $710
5- Red and White bunting from vidastyle’s shop on etsy- $28
6- Cyclephants Mobile- $32
7- Elephant Pull Toy, original collage from robinseggstudio’s etsy shop- $75
8- Babyletto Modo 3-Drawer Changer in Espresso- $440
9- Kritter Children’s Chair from Ikea- $13 each
Kids Play Tables: Kids Dark Brown Corner Play Table – Espresso Square Play Table- $120
10- TerriBear Junior Lamp – Soft White- $69
New Addition: Pali Modern Cribs
I’m amazed by the wide selection of modern cribs available to new moms these days and am always happy to add another brand to the constantly growing list of choices on buymoderncribs. My most recent additions are from Pali, who have a couple of different collections you should take into consideration.
First is the Imperia Crib shown here with the Novara collection of furniture. You can find the crib at our csn affiliate for $449. The storage pieces are listed there as well.

The other collection I recommend is the Milano collection. The crib is $550 at our csn affiliate and you can get the entire nursery set in either Moccacchino or Natural/White for $1350.

You may be able to find Pali at your local childrens’ furniture store and can check their store finder to see their complete list of retailers.
Oeuf Costume Design Competition
Well, Halloween may be over, but dress-up play goes on all year long (at least it does at our house!). So if you have a 2-10 year old who likes to play dress-up as much as mine does, they might want to get out their crayons and design their dream costume for the Oeuf Dream Dress-Ups Design Competition.
Send your child’s drawing (as a .jpg or .pdf) to competition@oeufnyc.com for a chance to win a wool hand-knitted version of their costume made especially for them by the Oeuf team in Bolivia!

Take a look at their mask and tail sets for inspiration and for an idea of what they can do!

Don’t delay because the deadline to enter is November 14 at midnight!
Owl-phabets: ABC Posters on Etsy
Woodland and owl themed nurseries are still extremely popular. The finishing touch for your owl themed nursery could be one of these beautiful alphabet posters.
O is for Owlabet 11″x14″ $40 from thrasherandwren

Personalized Alphabet Print 8″x10″ $20 from missprintdesign

Large Owlphabet Poster 11.7″x16.5″ $29.99 from Gingiber (also available in green, purple and aqua)
Holiday Shopping: Can’t Go Wrong at The Land of Nod
Now that Halloween is over, it’s time to face holiday shopping head on! I admit, I’m pretty well set with gifts for my own kids. I pick things up for them through the year and put them away for their birthdays and the holidays. It’s the other kids on the list that I’ll still be shopping for. I love shopping for and finding just the right gift. I think people get scared that they won’t find something good enough and so they put off holiday shopping until it’s too late and they have to settle for something that just good enough.
Get started shopping with me now, and over the next few weeks we’ll find “can’t miss” places to shop for the holidays, where it almost doesn’t matter what you pick because it’s bound to be a winner!
The first shop I have to recommend is one of my affiliates, The Land of Nod, where “you’ll find everything for your kid’s room from A to ZZZ”. As soon as I got their holiday catalog in the mail last week, I was impressed with the collection of gifts they put together. They’ve assembled so many of my favorite toys and brands and have a fantastic variety of quality toys with a lot of imaginative and creative play value.
Sorters and stackers are gifts that every toddler should have on hand and these wooden versions will be handed down through the family.
I’m a big fan of these multi solution puzzles from P’kolino.
For the artistic and creative kids, a beautiful art set paired with a coloring book can’t be beat.
They also carry colorful and cozy Blabla dolls.
The Land of Nod even has the youngest babies covered with gifts like these cherry wood teethers or the wooden wheeled animal baby toys.
If you celebrate Hanukkah, your kids are sure to enjoy the Kidkraft Hanukkah play set.
Finally, this Mojo Play Table is on my own wish list…
There are TONS of other great items at The Land of Nod (including a fabulous selection of books, clothes, baby gear, etc…) so just go visit the site or if you’re lucky enough to live in the Chicago area or in Seattle, you can visit the store in person.
